Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGM)

These resources are specifically about Real Time CGM, this is different to Flash Glucose Monitoring (Libre which you can read about here.

Eligibility Criteria for NHS funding for those with Type 1 Diabetes (you need one of the following):


Adults

  • More than 1 episode a year of severe hypoglycaemia with no obvious preventable precipitating cause
  • Complete loss of awareness of hypoglycaemia
  • Frequent (more than 2 episodes a week) asymptomatic hypoglycaemia that is causing problems with daily activities
  • Extreme fear of hypoglycaemia


Children

  • Frequent severe hypoglycaemia or impaired awareness of hypoglycaemia associated with adverse consequences (for example, seizures or anxiety
  • Inability to recognise, or communicate about symptoms of hypoglycaemia (for example, because of cognitive or neurological disabilities)
  • Neonates, infants and pre-school children
  • Children and young people who undertake high levels of physical activity (for example sport at a regional, national or international level)

The Diabetes Technology Network UK are a branch of the Association of British Clinical Diabetologists.  They have produced programme on the use of Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) particularly focusing on its use in Pregnancy.
