The old railway line here was known as the Castleman's Corkscrew and was a line which used to go from Brockenhurst to Ringwood and on to Poole. You can read about the history of this route at the Lymington and District Historical Society webpage here.
From Ringwood the route continues and more detail of this section can be seen on this map. Wouldn't it be great if these sectioned were joined up? There is only a short section west of Burley which would need restoring.
The Blue route below is 7.3km (in total both ways) and is suitable for bikes. The Orange loop is 2.3km and takes in a large wooden fort hidden in the woods (see photo on map). A great place for children to find and explore.
Free parking at Longslade View or Longslade bottom (BH25 5WA).
